And you’re never too old to learn. Whether you are 9 or 90, complete beginner or more advanced. Perhaps you’ve been playing for a while and feel you’ve reached a plateau or maybe you learnt violin at school then let it lapse. Whatever your situation I offer relaxed, informal one to one tuition to help you tap into the pleasures of making music.
The fiddle music of the Celtic traditions is both a musical treasure trove and a living tradition that brings pleasure not just through recordings or books but through participation. Playing alone at home, in pub sessions with friends, or performing on stage, it is music you can enjoy for the rest of your life, whatever level you play at.
If you’re not sure whether the violin is for you, I offer a completely FREE half hour introduction to the fiddle, where You’ll learn a lot about the instrument and get to play your first few notes (I’ll provide the instrument).
Once we get past the very basic techniques the lessons will be individually tailored – you’ll learn to play in the way that you want, using tunes that you like, not boring exercises.
Normally lessons take place at my home about 12 miles from Stranraer, but if transport is a problem I am happy to come to you, though I will charge a little extra to cover the cost. If you want to learn with a friend, I will teach two people together at no extra cost. For larger groups we can negotiate a price.
